December 3 is UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities

According to the WHO, 1 in 10 people around the world live with a disability. In Canada, approximately 80% of people with disabilities use assistive technology (AT), while 27% need at least one more device. Cost is cited as the main barrier, according to Statistic Canada.

DIY assistive technology — community created devices that can easily be made by makers and volunteers — can help bridge the gap.
